History and Mission

The mission of the Symphonia is to inspire, educate and engage the lives of our diverse South Florida community through extraordinary musical experiences.

The Symphonia, South Florida's Premier Chamber Orchestra, was founded in July 2004, as the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia. The Symphonia debuted its Connoisseur Concert Series during the 2005-06 artistic season. Since its inception, this series has been performed to wide critical acclaim. With a repertoire blending classic with contemporary works, these concerts offer compositions from diverse composers, highlighting those that can best be brought to life by a chamber-size ensemble. Performances have expanded to audiences in Fort Lauderdale, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Amaturo Theater and All Saints Episcopal Church, and to northern Palm Beach County, at the Eissey Campus Theatre and Royal Poinciana Chapel and the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami.

The Connoisseur Concert Series remains the artistic centerpiece of The Symphonia, and the launching point for its other programs, such as Encore Connoisseur!, Meet the Orchestra, and Box Lunch It with The Symphonia, programs that enrich the community through distinctive musical performances and innovative educational outreach. The Symphonia consistently receives enthusiastic praise from music lovers and critics alike for its programming, repertoire choices and for the caliber of its guest artists and talented core musicians.

The orchestra is proud of its String Outreach program, Building a String Orchestra and Self-Esteem, running at the Boys' & Girls' Club of Delray Beach. This curriculum provides quality teaching for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.

The Symphonia is the official orchestra for Festival of the Arts BOCA and has enjoyed partnerships with the Master Chorale of South Florida and Boca Ballet Theatre.

Recognizing that the arts are essential to the quality of life, The Symphonia also works with The City of Boca Raton to develop concepts for ongoing Community Concerts.
